Hi everyone and TGIF! Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week and Christmas is just a short month away? Here in Los Angeles, it can be difficult to keep up with the rest of the country (with the exception of Florida) when it comes to the winter season. Our “winter” is a little warmer than the northern states, which is great for beach lovers. However, when it comes to fashion lovers like myself, we feel a bit slighted on the seasonal styles.
Many of us are still wearing shorts here in Southern California. We somewhat skip through fall, and when winter arrives, we’re just breaking into the sweaters and (maybe) boots. As has been reported by Refinery29, the record high for winter in LA was 92 degrees Fahrenheit. In other words, no heavy layers for us. So, we are forced to alter our seasonal looks from those that we see on the runways. I get a lot of inspiration from the trends spotted during fashion months, so it just takes a little more creativity to make them work for my lifestyle and climate. I don’t have to say no to them altogether! So without further ado, here are the four trends I’m currently coveting… and LA-friendly ways to wear them.
Anything and everything furry has taken the style scene by storm this season, and I can’t help but want to jump on the (faux) fur bandwagon. It looks luxe and adds a whole new texture to any basic outfit. Instead of a fur coat, we can don a fur vest over a short-sleeve tee.
“Culottes are now classics,” according to Lyst, and I couldn’t agree more. These flowy pants offer a chic shape and plenty of breathing room, all while covering your legs and pretending it’s “winter.” A fun color like bubblegum pink is a surefire way to stand out from the crowd.
Or, as Vogue Paris calls them, “marshmallow colors” such as “baby blue, candyfloss pink, spring chick yellow and almond green.” These hues are much more sun-friendly than the usual black and charcoal we see during the colder months.
Especially in a classic camel color, the trenchcoat has proven to have serious staying power, and I live for the days it’s cool enough outside to wear one. One style trick is to pair your trench with leather shorts (and tights, if it’s a little chilly at night). The proportions are unexpectedly fashionable.
Just because the temperature doesn’t drop to single digits here in LA doesn’t mean we can’t wear some of the hottest winter trends. I can’t wait to start styling these pieces and working them into my own version of a winter wardrobe soon! We are actually packing again and heading to somewhere for Thanksgiving holiday…follow our adventure on SnapChat @poshclassymom and Instagram.
