When traveling with kids, I often have a bunch of things to consider before booking a hotel. Is the hotel child friendly? Does it offer complimentary crib or pack-n-play so we don’t have to bring ours? Does it have activities on site for kids or a kids club? Does it have a separate sink for baby food prep if baby is not eating adult food yet. A lot to consider even for a short stay. I often see on mommy boards fellow moms asking for kid friendly hotel options and I’m going to recommend a hotel that we recently stayed at that is extremely kid and family friend, also romantic – Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Husband was invited to speak on a panel that took place at the resort so we decided to make a mini family staycation out of it. We got a beachside one bedroom Bungalow for the four of us, it comes with a kitchen with stovetop and fridge, dining area, and separate living room and guest bathroom along with a super spacious master bedroom. There is also an outdoor patio with fireplace that you can cozy up to with a glass of wine when the kids are in bed. I’m obsessed with details when traveling with kids so prior to our arrival I have already checked the hotel’s website for its amenities that are kids friendly, I’ve also called the concierge in advance notifying them that we will need a travel crib and high chairs and any other things that may require kid friendly adaptations.
Kevin, who worked at the concierge desk was super friendly, he went above and beyond to make sure that we felt at ease and at home during our stay. He arranged for a crib to be delivered to our room before we checked in, and even provided with a set of travel sized baby toiletries for the kids. He made reservations for dinner for my husband and I as well as any spa treatment needs. Customer service is par none, from the bellhop that took us to our room via a golf cart and helped getting our million luggage in to the room to the housekeeping staff that brought us extra towels and waters everyday everyone is friendly and attentive. Great customer service is a super plus when you travel with kids and may have additional requests.
The hotel have a Kids Club for guests and have daily activities from painting to fun maze building to exciting science experiments. They pretty much keep the kids entertained while parents enjoy their round of golf, or spa treatment or a romantic dinner. The only requirement is that the kids to be 3-8 and potty trained. Since Prince A is only 2.5, he was not able to partake in the activities, however they have a ton of toys and videos and books that we could check out to our rooms. We got him a set of hot wheels and foam block puzzles, a few books and some videos that he could watch with our sitter while we are off to our dinner at Mar’sel.
Because the hotel is situated on a peninsula of Rancho Palos Verdes, it is surrounded by ocean view, it also has great walking trails that the whole family can partake. Prince A and I woke up early one morning and did a mini hike along the ocean front trail. He was excited to see the seagulls and pelicans grazing by at close distance as well as watching the tide crashing on to the rocks. Though we weren’t able to spot any whales or dolphins, we rang the bell just for fun. The hotel boast many walking trails for the family to explore, we were able to catch an amazing sunset during one of our evening walks.
The above are more family oriented amenities, but while you stay here, make sure you visit the spa and have a massage, or simply enjoy the spa pool and amenities including access to our steam room, dry sauna, whirlpools, indoor/outdoor relaxation lounges and fire pits. The view from the relaxation lounges is oh so….relaxing that you may never want to leave. While you are there, have a smoothie or detox cleaning concoction from the spa café along with a super yummy, baked fresh cookies or scones.
Lastly, Terranea does not lack an array of dining options from casual coffee to fancy fine dining, we’ve pretty much ate at every single restaurants they have on site during our stay. If you don’t fancy the fine dining at Mar’sel, there is the fabulous Friday Seafood Buffet or Sunday Brunch Buffet at Catalina Kitchen, or enjoy a fire pit happy hour at Nelson’s or late night sushi bite at Bashi. All of them are great for family or couple. Husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Mar’sel, the seafood dishes were fresh and deliciously prepared and the service was impeccable.
Based on personal experience, I highly recommend families traveling or want to just have a local getaway to come and experience Terranea Resort, it has things for the whole family and you can’t bea the breathtaking location and view. I hope your stay is as great as mine.
