Hi Everyone, after month of trying some of these awesome skincare products, the much anticipated Winter Skin Care review is live. I am going to give my honest opinion on these products after having used them consistently for at least a couple of weeks. Some of the brands you have seen me mention in previous skin care review posts while others are new because I love discovering new skincare products that either works or don’t work (at least for me personally). So without further ado, let’s get started.
Philosophy has been a very solid brand that focus on mindful beauties and creating life-enriching products that celebrate the human spirit and also graciously give back to the communities. 1% of their USA net sales to the hope and grace fund. I believe they were the first brand that I splurged on while I was in college and their Amazing Grace and Purity line is and continues to be their hero product lines. I am going to focus on two products in their Anti-Aging line. The first is the Overnight Anti-Aging Peel. This product is a two-step anti-aging peel that combines the immediate micro-exfoliation with an restorative mask that virtually eliminate the potential for irritation, for skin that appears healthier-looking longer. First, the alpha/beta hydroxy acid leave-on peel solution delivers exceptional resurfacing benefits. The solution is applied by saturating one of the enclosed cotton pads and wipe over cleansed skin. There is no need to rinse and you wait 2–3 minutes for the solution to be fully absorbed into the skin.
Next, you apply the youth-extending night gel to elevate the effectiveness of this peel by enhancing the ability of new skin cells to resist visible signs of aging. Use this peel 2–3 nights per week before application of moisturizer. After weeks of using this peel, I noticed that the morning after I use it, my skin feels smoother, appears clearer and more even-toned. It has also removed all of my post-inflammation hyper-pigmentation marks from old blemishes. There is no unpleasant sting or irritation that comes with a regular peel, the formula is gentle enough on the skin yet produces effective results that you can see. Both the solution and the gel is absorbed quickly into the skin and really minimizes the appearance of pores. The only thing I have to say is that the gel doesn’t provide enough moisture, especially during winter months to keep the skin hydrated so an additional moisturizer may be needed for those with dry skin.
I don’t think I need another introduction to Sulwhasoo, they have been a regular on every skincare post I have had because it is one of my favorite luxury Korean skincare brand that I trust and uses regularly. The First Care Activating Serum is one of their BEST SELLING products across their brand. It is used as the first step after cleansing, the serum helps boost whatever the next skincare product’s absorption, usage, and results. The Golden clear liquid is non-greasy, absorbs quickly into the skin and setting the stage for the following products that you like to layer on top of it. For dry skin caused by aging, the complex nourishes and firms the appearance of the complexion for healthier looking, glowing skin. I have used this product on and off over the years and there is noticeable difference between when I uses it versus months that I take off. I find that products tend to stay on better, and even application of makeup and foundation stays on longer when I use it. It sounds unbelievable, but I swear by this and so does millions of Korean beauties.
The Cold Plasma has always been a cult favorite for those that adores the Perricone brand and now the newly improved formula of Cold Plasma+ targets the skin’s individual needs to deliver visible and personalized results faster and more powerful. Packed with powerhouse ingredients, including Copper Tripeptides to improve the appearance of firmness and elasticity, Vitamin C Ester to reduce the look of dark spots and restore radiance, while Omegas 3, 6 and 9 promote smoother, more supple-looking skin. Over time, the serum smooths the appearance of lines, wrinkles and uneven texture. The redness and uneven texture of the skin tones will be corrected. I have not used the original formula to compare the two, but this new formula is light weight, has a gel-like texture. When I scoop it out to use, the formula in the jar will be smoothed out the next evening. My only complaint for this product is that it is missing that extra level of hydration for those with dry skin. Especially in winter when the skin is stripped out of the natural layer of fat, I really crave for that hydration. This would be a great product for summer, but you would need to apply additional moisturizer during winter.
New brand and new product to introduce to you guys!!! ISDIN is a new brand I discovered through referral and readings from other beauty and skincare blogger – Soo from Brown Eyed Toast. ISDIN is a Spanish brand with over 40 years of history combining pharmaceutical and cosmetic expertise. Their hero product, the Flavo-C ampoules is an all-in-one skin booster rich with Vitamin C and Ultraglycans to help reduce the appearance of micro wrinkles and boost natural moisture production. I was surprised to read that there are only two ingredients in this product: 5% L-Ascorbic Acid Proteoglycans and Pre-proteoglycans. Proteoglycans – proteins found naturally as part of the extracellular matrix; they provide structure, viscosity and lubrication, and adhesivenes in the skin. The two ingredients found in these small but powerful ampoules act to increase hyaluronic acid production and stimulate cell growth thus replenish the moisture of the skin from within to achieve a smoother and more radiant look.
I was so excited to try this product out and it did not disappoint me at all. Let’s start with first impressions after two weeks use. The consistency of the product is almost like a light weight oil, it is absorbed into the skin within a minute or two of light massage. I am a fan of oil therapy for skins and this is right up my ally. There is a light scent from the natural product, and the oil does not feel sticky or overly heavy. I have noticed that even with two weeks of use, it improves the appearance of fine lines and micro-wrinkles around the corner of my eyes and my forehead and brightens skin’s complexion. I am super excited to see how my skin will respond to it over longer term use, for now let’s just say that the Flavo-C Ultraglycans has quickly become my current skin care obsession.
This is another new Philosophy product that I tried since Christmas holiday. This breakthrough resist·renew·repair serum is formulated with 3-dimensional technology that helps repair skin damage, protect from daily aggressors and reactivate skin’s natural age-resisting mechanisms. When you open the product package, it comes with the serum and also an activator. Before the very first use: I poured the entire vial of Philosophy’s High Potency Activator containing pure vitamin C, red rice extract and red grape ferment extract into the serum, and shake well for 20 seconds and the serum turns into light pink. The consistency is smooth and light weight and also absorbs into the skin very quickly. There is a light iridescent shine within the serum mixture but goes away after it is completely absorbed into the skin. As much as I loved the micro-delivery peel, my skin didn’t respond to the serum as quickly as it did with the peel. I read reviews from other customers that this serum may take a while to finally kick in so I will continue to try it out and provide report later.
Hanacure All-In-One Facial
So by now, you are all wondering: Which product was the big Meh? and the answer is: Hanacure! I have watched videos, read endorsements from celebrities and even Harper’s Bazaar magazine and other media outlets about Hanacure for a while. It has been sold out completely and the only way you can get it is from friends who knows friends who bought more than one set. So when I was given this product as a gift from a gifting event over the holidays, I was super stoked to try it out. There is only one single use facial set so I want to document it as much as I could. The starter kit claims to be a “Multi-action Treatment Mask for Immediate, Flawless-looking Skin” it is “Anti-Aging, Clarifying, Detoxifying, Lifting & Firming, Brightening, Pore Tightening, Contouring, Evens Skin Tone” and it is “Dermatologist Tested, Hypoallergenic, CO2 OctoLift™, Formulated without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, and not tested on Animals. Sounds like a miracle product right?
After I followed all the instructions, I applied the mask on to my face, my neck and also the back of my hand as per website’s suggestion. After carefully waiting it out for 30 minutes, I didn’t experience the “Extreme tightness” or pulling sensation of skin that many endorsements have claimed. It was just a normal tightness feeling from the solution gel drying out. I then proceed to wash the dried up gel off my face and neck and hands and then that’s when I started to experience some discomfort. For some odd reason, my face, neck and hands started to turn red and splotchy after I washed off the solution and my face and neck grew hotter and flushed. I had little red dots forming on my face and neck and the back of my hands ad well. There was no itchy or swelling so I couldn’t tell whether it is an allergic reaction or not, just redness and warmness on all of the areas the solution was applied on (no where else). I know that the product is supposed to the “hypo-allergic” but I’m’ pretty sure I had a negative reaction to the solution. I asked other fellow influencer who also attended the event and received the product and she too had the exact reaction as I did. So unfortunately as much as I wanted this product to do miracles to my face, I was faced with the exact opposite. Thought the redness went away after about 12 hours, I would have to say that I’ll pass on Hanacure.
