My Dearest, Sweetest Miss K:
You have turned 2 and I can’t even type a word without tearing up. On your 2nd birthday I am filled with mixed emotions of excitement, sadness, happiness and pride. I am excited because I see how much you’ve grown, and all the magical moments and bewildering things that awaits you still ahead. You are the sweetest spirit but also have a commanding attitude that lets us know you are fearless, strong-willed and independent. You are and will be a force to be reckoned with and I know that your strength and persistence will serve you well in life and shape you to be a remarkable little lady. Though you have just started school, I can’t wait to have conversations with you about what you daily school bits and answer all of your questions about clothes, boys, college, and anything your curious and beautiful little mind want to know. But, I must admit that I am
a tiny bit sad.
I am sad because the baby days are gone. You are growing up so fast and have developed and amazed us in so many ways. My days spent cuddling with you, munching on your plump little arms, thighs and cheeks are coming to an end. Every chance I get, I bury my nose in your neck and hair and greedily inhale that special baby scent that is uniquely yours. I savor every tiny kisses you plant on my cheeks, my lips, my eyes because everyone of them I can collect is one to remember in the days you will no longer willingly want to. As much as I may wish for my darling girl to remain a baby, I know you will not be forever. I must push my tiny bit of sadness aside and embrace the part that thrills me about your growth and the happiness you have brought me.
The past two years, you were my sidekick, my partner in crime. With your brother in school, there were endless mommy and me classes and play time at Gymboree. Though I try my best to do fun things with you like going to the Peninsula and have High Tea (pictures shown here), or visit the latest cool restaurants (mostly for mommy’s curiosity) or get ourselves into trouble at the Museums (no climbing says the security), some of our mornings were filled with shopping trips, helping with laundry, cleaning, and walks around the block. You never complained and happily tagged along for any outings I have planned for us for the day, however exciting or mundane it may be. You have quite mastered the mini blogger pose as you are the starlet of Fit with Kate and BonJour Miss K, together with your brother Aiden, you have starred in many collaboration campaigns on my blog which I will show you when you are older.
You know the part I love the most about you is how incredibly smart and witty and funny you are. You have mastered all the letters of the alphabet, counting to 20 in English and Mandarin, expressing your needs and desires with words and phrases rather than whines well before you turned 2. I pride myself for teaching you at a young age, exposing you to cool games for babies and fun puzzles that Aiden used to play with at your age. They provided mental stimulation and challenges your little brain everyday. I may not know what career you will go into when you grow up but I am certain that the sky’s the limit because that’s how I plan to raise you and your brother.
You will learn and explore in a way that makes your life rich and interesting. You will grow and figure out who you want to be and what you want from life. You will accomplish great things and inspire many. I’m confident that you will develop a bond with your brother that nourishes your (and his) soul in such a way that will keep you great friends for life and extend beyond your brotherly and sisterly love. I know that you will always be fiercely loyal and compassionate to the people you love. I am sure that I will butt heads with you at times because we share so many personality traits, but we will work through our differences and through the process our bonds will be tighter than ever. The challenges you face and overcome will help shape you into the amazing lady I know you will become.
On this special day, I hope you are able to feel every ounce of love that surrounds you. Despite this letter to you, I can’t really put in to words how much I love you, perhaps it amounts to every breathe of air I breath, with every drop of blood in my body, and every kisses and hugs I give you. I am so blessed to have you as my daughter, to teach me how to be a better person, a better mom. Your love for me is truly unconditional my sweet little Miss K and I will do my best to make you proud to call me your mommy.
Loving you always and forever to eternity,
~ Your mommy
