Behind an unassuming store front in the Cow Hollow district of the San Francisco Bay, stands a Two Michelin Starred, World’s Top 50 awarded restaurant named Atelier Crenn. Pioneered by chef Dominique Crenn, Atelier Crenn is an homage to her father, Allain, with his paintings hung upon the walls of a homey yet luxurious dining room. The intimate seating of 8 tables gives patrons a more personal feel with many staff attending to every need. The menu is focused on seafood and vegetables, drawing from the memories of her mother’s garden in Brittany through the lens of California product and produce as well as inspirations from her father Allain who she credits her artistic and creative natures to.
Chef Crenn is the proud winner of the 2018 James Beard Award Best Chef of West and also have appeared in the hit cult favorite docuseries Chef’s Table on Netflix. She is the first ever female chef to receive two stars in the United States and Best female Chef in 2016 by world’s 50 Best Restaurant awards. The list of her credentials goes on and on. Atelier Crenn has been on my foodie bucket list for a long time and since I haven’t had any time to visit the Bay area, I had to put it on the back burner. With this family summer road trip to the Bay, I once again brought out my list and booked the restaurant at my earliest convenience and have been looking forward to it with much excitement.
My culinary excursion at Atelier Crenn began with an offering of an amuse bouche of Strawberry & Tomato Kombucha and and a greeting of an original poem by Chef Crenn, each line symbolizing a presentation of a multi-course experience. I’ll be sharing the entire dining experience with all of you along with some personal notes and favorites.
