Sometimes when you are on your way to a photo shoot and you pass by this beautiful patch of trail road you just gotta pull over. That is exactly what happened to me and my photographer Leti when we were on our way to shoot the Carlsbad flower field a few weeks back. While driving on the 5 Freeway, we passed by this vast open space of hiking trail and looked at each other and we knew we just had to shoot there. Even though I wasn’t properly dressed with hiking shoes, my wedge heels was comfortable enough without breaking my ankles so I walked the hiking trail path.
I must confess that under any other circumstances, I wouldn’t been too keen on the idea of hiking in nature. I don’t like bugs, I don’t like the sun beating on my skin that hasn’t been lathered on with 5 layers of SPF. But that moment, that scene, that view, everything just aligned perfectly I didn’t hesitate to just let go in the beauty of nature that surrounds me. We are so focused on our destination at times, that we forget the view getting there is equally beautiful and memorable. Our little detour yield the most natural and beautiful shots that I couldn’t have asked for more. In life, not all detours are bad and/or distracting, they are little rest areas that allows us to take a break and refocus so that we can get on the main road with a better purpose.
