Valentine’s may be over, but I’m still wearing my heart on my sleeves! I’m sorry but there is something that I MUST address on my blog today and if you are averse to political topics, you can just scroll through the photos comment on how cute my outfit is (or not) and move on. As an “influencer”, our roll is not only talking about the trivial topics like the Pantone Color of the year or the return of the 90’s in fashion. We have an audience that is unique and authentic and dedicated so we should use our blog as a platform to talk about things that matters, urgent things that needs to be addressed and resolved and today I’m talking about the change needed to the second Amendment.
February 14, 2018, not yet a quarter into the year and already 18 school shootings in the US by Americans. What does it take for us to realize we have a real problem and not an immigration problem?! Reading about the tragedy of 17 Florida high school students led me to weep. As I celebrate Valentine’s Day with my two children and my loved ones, across the country there are families that lost theirs to an event that was completely preventable. I tried to imagine their pain and I am overcome with a huge wave of grief and I tear up EVERY TIME. I took my two kids to a “Valentine’s Date Night with Mommy” and gave them extra hugs and kisses last night and I pray that it won’t be them one day.
It is such an individualistic society. The collective good of others is irrelevant. This isn’t a problem limited to Trump supporters. It exist throughout the society. There are more violence towards immigrants (tripled since Trump took office) and ignorant “Americans” who probably have more mixed ancestry than they think they do thinking they have the right to openly assault people of a different race, ethnicity and color IN PUBLIC!!! I fear everyday that my kids will someday get bullied, attacked or looked down upon because they have Asian blood even though they are rightfully Americans. There is a fundamental breakdown of the family unit and there is no “village” raising our children. We are all alone, on our own. These shootings have become so frequent that there is no “Prayers and Peace” posts on Social Medias anymore. It is just another day, another town…as long as it is not MY town and it is just sad and disheartening to see. Please, if you have children, if you have loved ones you want to protect, make your voice heard to pass a new law revoking the old one that is archaic and potentially a danger to our society that is evolving and ever updating.
Thank you all for reading!
