Hi everyone! It is time for Midweek Inspo Linkup! Today’s post is another Posh Mom Chats – A Featured Interview segment with a fellow mommy blogger. In case you missed June’s Posh Mom Chats you can read it Here. I am so excited to introduce to you July’s Featured Interview with a beautiful style blogger, digital influencer and an ageless fitness fanatic. Posh Mom chats today with Jane Song, the fabulous mom behind Fit Fab Fun Mom, a lifestyle blog about fitness, fashion, travels, and other family fun.
I have been following Jane’s blog long before I started my own blogging journey. Initially I was captivated by her style, her amazing shoe collection (which you will have a glimpse of) and her amazingly fit physique…you will never be able to guess her age judging from her photos. I ogled her style posts and Instagram and as any blog admirers would do, I started commenting on her posts and Instagram photos and was elated when she also exchanged comments on mine. When I reached out to her about being an interviewee to my Posh Mom Chats segment, I was ecstatic that she is on-board because I have so many questions dying to ask her! Let’s cut to the chase and get straight to July’s installment of Posh Mom Chats with Jane Song of Fit Fab Fun Mom.
Q: Hi Jane, can you please give a little back ground on how long you have been blogging and what inspired or motivated you to start your blog?
I started this blog back in 2013. Before I started blogging, I used to post discussion threads about fitness and fashion on the bulletin boards of several popular websites for Chinese expatriates and for people who work and/or study in North America. My readers loved how my posts motivated them and suggested I start up my own fitness and fashion blog to inspire and motivate more women/moms who want to stay fit and fab. So I decided to start blogging.
Q: You work full time, have 2 kids (13 & 10) and also consistently post 2-3 times a week, how do you balance your time between all of these?
My husband and I do my blog shooting only on the weekend, and I’d edit the photo and write the posts at weekday nights after dinner, kids, and work stuffs. As you can imagine, I don’t have much time, so efficiency is the key. I’d settle at the sweet spot instead of being perfectionist. It is more “real-life” anyway.
Q: I’ve been reading your blog even before I started my own and know that you’ve been a long time fitness fanatic. You look amazing and not a day over 25! How often do you exercise and what is your typical fitness routine?
Well, it’s so sweet of you! I try to workout 4-5 days a week if my schedule allows. I do barre training during the weekdays and go to the regular gym over the weekend to get my cardio and weight-training done.
Q: You have close to 100K followers on Instagram, and I constantly see you getting featured on Reward Style (aka liketoknow.it). Do you have any advice/tips for increasing the social media exposure?
There’re a few tips that I’ve learned along my way: 1) Put your best photos up 2) Invest a good camera 3) Be yourself 4) Focus on building your brand over the time.
Q: How would you describe your personal style? Is there any style tips you can share for fellow fashionistas who is just starting their budding quest as a blogger but is on a tight budget?
I’ve been interested in fashion since I was a little kid. My grandma was really good at making clothes and I always loved helping her pick and sort out different materials. My sense of style, my designer/industry knowledge, and my taste have all certainly evolved, and will continue to do so over the years. I used to love those street-chic casual looks, but after working in corporate America for over 10 years, I am more into those versatile styles that I can wear for work, as well. For budget conscious readers, my advice is to invest on classic and timeless pieces, quality over quantity, buy something you’d enjoy for years to come instead of bunch of things you’d toss off after the season.
Q: You have an amazing and enviable closet (I had to pin your closet to my Pinterest board). As a style blogger, I know too well that each season there are new trends and new pieces on the “Must Have” list and the closet is never too big. What are your tips and tricks for keeping it so neat and organized?
1) I clean my closet twice a year, I donate, consign, give away, or throw away clothes I no longer wear after a year. 2) My closet is color ordered, it makes it easy to mix and match outfits when I can see all my choices. 3) I stay seasonal, I store off-season outfits and put them in the storage room 4) Shoes are my obsession 🙂 As you can see I have a large collection of shoes, and I literally built my own closet to display and store them nicely so that it’s easier for me to see them all and choose them to best fit my outfits.
Finally, let’s play a little of “Would You Rather Wear…”
- Summer Styles or Winter Coats? – Summer Styles
- Moto Jacket or Classic Trench? – Moto Jacket
- Nike or Adidas? – Adidas
- Hats or Scarves? – Hats
- Boho or Athleisure style? – Boho
