Hi everyone! I am so excited to introduce to you all the very first Midweek Inspirations Linkup here on the blog Every WEDNESDAY! Like I mentioned before, each Wednesday, there will be a carefully curated post on topics such as styling trends, beauty & fitness advice, blogging tips and ideas, but most importantly, a monthly Featured Interview segment where I chat with a successful Fashion/Lifestyle Blogger who is also a fabulous mom. I am starting off my first Posh Mom Chats with Vanessa Lambert, owner and editor of What Would V Wear™, LLC a digital media property delivering fashion, beauty & lifestyle content.
I have came to know Vanessa when I stumbled upon her blog and her Instagram where I was drawn to her vivid use of colors and her novel sense of style mixing flowy soft textures with structured pieces to create an outfit that is unmistakably Vanessa. I looked forward to her blog updates and of course sharing bits and pieces of her life through Instagram. What also peaked my interest is that she too, has a 4 year old son, who’s age is similar to PA. Through our exchanges of comments and emails, I can feel her sincerity and that she is genuinely a warm and sweet person and mom. I was over the moon when she agreed to be featured as my first interviewee. Without further ado, may I present the very first installment of Posh Mom Chats with Vanessa Lambert of What Would V Wear.
Q: How long have you been blogging and what inspired or motivated you to start your blog?
I’ve been blogging for two years, full-time for 6 months. I started a blog to simply have a fashion outlet for myself.
Q: What is the biggest challenge/obstacle you’ve faced since you started your blog?
The biggest challenge would be to manage all blogging duties from social media, content writing and editing at the same time. It’s quite time consuming, and yet I love doing it. You got to have a passion for it otherwise you will get burned out.
Q: I read from your blog in the beginning of the year that you have quit your corporate job and became a full time blogger. It has been about 6 month, how did this decision impact your blog and your life thus far?
It has been the best decision ever! I have a four-year-old son which meant that I was able to spend more quality time with him ever since I went full-time with my blogging.
Q: We all know that as a mom, it is extremely difficult to find time for blogging as well as taking care of family responsibilities. You have seemed to manage that quite well with ease. What is your typical day like?
My son is at summer camp right which helps out a lot. A Typical day starts with a busy morning, i.e. getting my son ready for the day, driving him to school, etc. Once I’m home I’ll check emails and and then start on my blog content for the next week.
Q: Speaking for myself (and perhaps many of my readers), I find it extremely time consuming to manage the various social media platforms that are out there, not to mention the glass ceiling of “x” number of followers that brands look for when they seek collaborations. Do you have any advice/tips for increasing the social media exposure and better manage all the platforms that are existing?
I think the key is not to focus on your “x” number of followers but making sure that your content is good, i.e. your imagery. Know who your readers are, and have a unique voice. My recent interview with racked.com talked about this topic. It discussed how mid-tier bloggers can indeed be successful. You don’t necessarily have to have a huge following in order to be successful.
To manage all of the social media I strongly recommend hootsuite.com. It’s the best […tool].
Q: You have amazing and envious style, what some of the readers may not realize is that you also make jewelries (insert heart eye emoji). How did you get into the business? What is your favorite piece that you have designed and made?
I have two degrees; one of them is in fashion design. I’ve always loved creating and designing. All of my jewelry is handmade by me — it’s really just a passion project of mine. My favorite pieces are probably my tassel bead bracelets, currently available at Whatwouldvwear.com/Shop.
Q: If you could go back in time and advise yourself to do one thing over for your blog, what would it be?
I don’t think I have anything, to be honest. I’m the type of person that lives in the now. I would rather improve my future than re-do my past.
Finally, let’s play a little of “Would You Rather Wear…”
- All Black or All White? All black.
- Skinny Jeans or Flares? Flares.
- Flats or Heels? Heels.
- Athleisure or Black Tie? Black tie.
- No makeup or a Bad hair day? No make-up.
- Vintage or Minimal style? Vintage.
- Crocs or Uggs? None. Not a fan of either of them but if I really had to choose…Uggs
