For the longest time, I have been a skinny jeans girl and as much as I tried to embrace the wide leg, flared leg or boyfriend jeans, I always go back to skinny jeans. But recently I find myself wearing the “Mom Jeans” more and more. Not because I am (finally) adapting to the fact that I am a mom of two, but simply because I like the overall fit more and the style is super wearable and less restricting.
One notable difference is that mom jeans tends to be high waisted to hold in the tummy area (and god knows how much we need that) and also have a lifting effect in the back! I have always loved High Waisted Leggings for working out so the high waisted jeans were accepted well into my denim family. Contrary to the unflattering stigma surround the Mom Jeans, contemporary brands have brought them back in full force – offering destroyed washes and cropped options.
I found my perfect High Waisted Mom Jeans from Mott and Bow. They are a and the specific pair I’m wearing is their Henry. It gave me this vintage Levi’s vibes that you see Cindy or Claudia rocking back in the days. The ankles are tapered but not “skinny” and the overall fit is much more relaxed. I can tuck in a nice sweater or top without having excess material bunching up around the waist.
What do you guys think? Have you tried the updated Mom Jeans yet? Do you like the trend? Or do you prefer the Skinny still? I think that with the right tailoring, a pair of high waisted jeans can be very flattering either with heels or with sneakers. The trick is to find that perfect pair and I have listed some below mostly under $100 to consider and try.
