I consider myself a fairly fit person, even after I’ve had two kids, through diets and moderate exercise, I was able to get back to pre-baby shape fairly quickly. However, natural aging and slowing metabolism is a main reason that I have areas of stubborn fat that no matter how often and intense I exercise or watch what I eat, it doesn’t go away. I would hide them with strategic clothing choices to avoid exposing them, and keep wishing “Wouldn’t it be great if you could eliminate those problem areas without downtime or surgery?” Well, now it looks like my wishes are granted with a procedure called CoolSculpting®.
Today, I went into the office of Dr. Sheila Nazarian of Nazarian Plastic Surgery for consultation and treatment. Nazarian Plastic Surgery specialize in CoolSculpting® that within just one treatment, you will start seeing a sleeker, more toned body that you desire. And with two machines, Dualsculpting is available at Nazarian Plastic Surgery – providing the same effective treatment, in half the treatment time. I documented the entire process on my Instastory as well as a LIVE session answer questions so make sure you check it out!! Now, let’s get down to the details.
CoolSculpting® aka Fat Freezing
What exactly is CoolSculpting®? CoolSculpting® is a safe, effective and affordable way to remove stubborn fat deposits via cold temperature therapy. Since fat cells are highly sensitive to cold temperatures, CoolSculpting® fat removal system delivers controlled cooling and targets stubborn and resisting fat cells right under the skin. The treated fat cells are crystallized, turn into dead cells and naturally processed and permanently eliminated by the body through natural human process, leaving a more toned and sculpted body within weeks after treatment. Each CoolSculpting® treatment decreases the number of fat cell by approximately twenty percent. Fat can be reduced on multiple areas of the body with the CoolSculpting® procedure. While one session can provide significant results, depending on the individual, additional sessions may further enhance results. The CoolSculpting® procedure is completely non-invasive and non-surgical, so you can expect to return to normal activities right after a session. After my treatment, I went to my kid’s school and picked them up.
FDA Approved – CoolSculpting® is FDA-approved fat freezing technology. While the treatment is safe on your body, it is tough on the stubborn and resistant fat cells. CoolSculpting® was developed by scientists at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Safe and Convenient – A single CoolSculpting® session lasts only 60 minutes, with no incisions or downtime. CoolSculpting® is safe because of the highly targeted delivery of cooling affects in the affected area, leaving adjacent tissues untouched. It’s so convenient that during CoolSculpting® sessions, patients are able to read or even take a nap! I brought my laptop and was working on this post during my procedure.
Natural Looking Results – Six months following a single CoolSculpting® session, patients have seen natural-looking results of a smoother and more toned treated area. Most of the crystallized fat cells will naturally work their way out of your body in the first two months, but some patients reporting seeing fat reduction within just four weeks.
Performed by Specialists – Nazarian Plastic Surgery has one of the most experienced teams that performs CoolSculpting® in Beverly Hills. Our team of licensed aestheticians and board-certified plastic surgeon are highly trained in CoolSculpting®. Most of our patients have their abdomen and flanks treated, as well as their arms, inner and outer thighs!
CoolSculpting® vs Other Fat Loss Procedures
CoolSculpting® vs Diet and Exercises – CoolSculpting® is not an alternative to proper diet and exercise, but rather a complimentary procedure to help you achieve your weight loss goal. Diet and exercise can help you lose weight, but they do not permanently remove fat cells. CoolSculpting® freezes off fat cells and your body discards them permanently.
My CoolSculpting® Experience
The Assessment – I was greeted by Alexa, Dr. Nazarian’s patient coordinator for initial assessment of whether I would be a good candidate for the treatment. While I had the grand optimism of freezing off the batwings on my upper arms, Alexa gave me her candid and honest opinion that my arm is mostly muscle and skin (not fat) and would not be a great area for treatment as the machine wouldn’t be able to find enough fat to freeze off. My inner thighs, however would be a more ideal area to perform the procedure. We took some photos and marked the specific area where the machine would be placed.
The Procedure – After signing some waver and changing into a disposable undie, I laid down on the super comfy chair along with a pile of pillows to keep me comfortable. Alexa then placed a piece of gel-like towel dripping with a freezing agent on my pre-marked area. This would then be clamped down on by the CoolSculpting device. The sensation of the device is almost like a vacuum sucking on my inner thighs, and then Alexa turned on the freezing process. I would be lying if I say that there is no pain or discomfort. There was a soreness and stinging on my inner thigh for the first 3-4 minutes, it felt like placing your hands on a giant piece of ice and unable to let go. However, after those 3-4 minutes, my treatment area became numb and the stinging sensation was pretty much non-existent and from there on, I was able to relax and work on my laptop.
After 35 minutes my procedure is done on one side, Alexa came in, removed the device from my thighs and also removed the gel pad. The area where I got treated was red, and raised like a stick of hard butter. Alexa then proceed to massage the area. This process would return the skin to its normal temperature as well as help minimize swelling and aid in the lymphatic drainage of the now-dead fat cells. As my skin warm up to the massage, there were a few minutes of stinging and discomfort like the initial freezing process, but nothing unbearable or terribly painful. The redness and pain went away after 10-15 minutes. Alexa then repeats the exact procedure on the other leg.
Cost – “How much does it cost” is a question that came up in my Insta Live session. An important factor determining price is the size of the applicator for treating the area. Mini applicators (treating the under chin and upper arms) cost approximately $750 to $900, medium applicators (for thighs and love handles) cost around $600 to $800, and the large applicators (for the abdomens) cost approximately $1,200 to $1,500. Of course different specialist may have different pricing, for my LA readers and friends, Dr. Nazarian has a special for the month of August where you can get 20% off your CoolSculpting® treatments.
Results – While many people think that the results will be immediate after a CoolSculpting® treatment, it is not a magic trick where you see a slimmer and svelte out of the procedure. The initial results can be seen as early as 3-4 weeks, however Coolsculpting works by cooling the fat to a critical temperature that causes the fat cell to die and then it needs to be eliminated by the body through the lymphatic system. This could take up to 2 or 3 months, so the final result of the Coolsculpting process will not be seen for at least 3 and possibly 4 months in some cases.
Now that you have read about the details of CoolSculpting® as well as my personal story, would you try it? Where would you like to freeze off your fat? If you have more questions, leave it in the comment section and I’ll try to answer them the best I can.
