I have a small secret, I love discovering obscure places in LA that not even the locals know about. Ironically some of these places were posted first by some of my favorite travel blogs and Instagram accounts that aren’t even in LA, doesn’t stop this girl from checking them out. So apparently someone put up a swing on top of Elysian Park, it swung above the city of Angels on one side and overlooked DTLA on the other. To get to the secret swing, you must hike up a trial; the hike was relatively short, but the incline was fairly steep. There is no clear markings on the trail which makes it difficult to find and therefore secretive.
One day after lunch in Echo Park, my friend and I decided to hike up the hill and check out this swing. Unprepared, we hiked up the steep slippery trail in our slippers and me in a dress. Just when I thought that I had made a terrible mistake and that we should turn around and go home, we saw the tree and the swing. Unfortunately the rope that tied the swing had already been broken and replacing it was a big knob of ugly twine, and a big wood branch replacing the original seat of the swing. I guess the “secret swing” was no secret after all. We still managed to take some beautiful photos given what we’ve got and I can cross another “secret” spot off my list.
