As a working mom juggling two young children, it is difficult to spend quality time with them. Usually when I leave for work in the morning Miss K (4 month) is still sleeping and Prince A (2.5 yrs) is getting ready for school. I could only steal a moment to say goodbye to him with a hug and a kiss. In the evening, I fight the traffic and rush to pick him up at 5pm just to see his little face lit up when he sees me at the end of a long school day.
When we get home, I play the game of musical chair bouncing back and forth between A and K’s dinner, bath and bedtime routine while manage to squeeze in a pump session. I would make dinner for A, help him with his meal, clean up and give him his bath. Then he gets to play with his iPad for 30 minutes while I feed K and pump as she drinks her milk and then put her down to sleep. With Miss K in bed, I then get A ready for his bedtime, change him into his jammies, read him bedtime story and finally sings him lullaby at the end of the evening.
Since my time is now split between the two and I relish in every moment when I get the chance to be with either alone. Last week, A’s school has a teacher learning day so I picked him up early and we went to the neighborhood park and had a mini picnic with his snacks. It was the perfect moment as the sun sets and basks him with its warm glow and A runs happily around the park. He was happy, playful and full of energy and was friendly to everyone he encountered, I couldn’t have asked for a better bonding time.
I recently read in an article that we should cherish every moment we spend with our kids as if it is the last because we will never be able to duplicate it exactly again. For they will be growing and changing every second, every minute, everyday. So if you have the time, try to spend as much of it with your little ones as possible, your attention and love means so much more in their little universe, because parents are their world.
