Happy hump-day everyone! Hope you guys have recovered from all the Thanksgiving festivities and shopping. We are still in Hawaii, but will be returning to LA tomorrow. Since my husband is from Hawaii, every year we make a trip out there so the kids can spend some time with the families on the island and we usually rent an Airbnb in Kailua.
You may have heard of Kailua from time to time, well that is because it is also know as Obama town, the town President Obama grew up in and spends his family vacation. I like Kailua as opposed to the popular Waikiki because it is more local and not flooded with tourists, it has private beaches and scenic walks. Good local eats and desserts. My Instastory and Snapchat followers probably have already gotten a peak at what we do and where we eat in the area. I’m sharing some of my favorite family friendly activities and eateries in Kailua.
Things To Do
Kailua Beach Park – Clean, clear water with soft white sand and away from all the crowd. This is one of the less know but local favorites. Our last vacation home was just steps away from the beach and we had a blast every day with the kids. A little windy, but easily made up for it by the warm sun.
Lanikai Beach – Calmer and more relaxing than Kailua Beach Park, this little gem is tucked away and more secluded. You get to the beach front via a little narrow pathway. This is truly the beach to be if you want to have the open ocean just for yourself.
Kailua Farmers Market – held every Thursday night, it is a fun place to sample local products and vegetables. There are many good local snacks that they make there and super unique and yummy.
Places To Eat
Over Easy – Over Easy is becoming my favorite breakfast places ever!! Their custard french toast is out of this world delish (my Snap fam probably got a glimpse of it’s ooey gooey goodness). Their pancakes are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. So Good!!
Cinnamons – Also a local favorite and one of our go to places for breakfast. Their selection of custom pancakes are so vast, you will have a hard time choosing. Red Velvet Pancakes anyone? Also a must try is their cornbread with honey butter!
Assagio – Italian restaurant that serves great dishes and large portions and super family friendly. Good option to come when you don’t feel like driving out to Waikiki.
Agnes Portuguese Bake Shop – This is a small, unassuming, hole in the wall mom and pop shop that makes great malasadas (portuguese fried dough dipped in sugar) hot and fresh and so so good.
Also, if you are visiting with small kids, there is a Target, Wholefoods and Longs drugstore all in one part of the center making shopping for family needs super easy!!
