This means the market is quite saturated. It can be quite challenging for you to stand out from the crowd and sell your photographs. The following four key points can help you to profitably sell your photographs. 

1. Sell physical prints

Physical and digital products cater to different audiences. Many customers prefer to buy physical photos that they can display in their homes. If you want to know how to sell photography prints, it’s fairly easy to sell them for your own Etsy shop. You can also sell them through online galleries but you won’t earn as much as you can earn when you sell from your own shop. 

By using the right production partner, you can turn your photos into wall art, posters, and various other physical products. A diversity of products can help to drive sales. You don’t have to manage inventory and worry about what’s not selling. Simply integrate your ordering system with your Etsy shop and once a customer places an order a print will be made, packaged and shipped. 

2. Sell photos from your own websites

There are various advantages to selling your photos from your own website. Anyone can set up a website today without having coding skills by using WordPress and various plugins. You will keep all the profit by selling photos from your own website rather than selling through a middleman. You can still market your photos on social media platforms, and once you build up your followers, you can direct them to your website through a link.

Seeing prints in the context of a bedroom or living room makes them more likely to sell. You can set your own competitive prices and have total control over how you display and market your work. Your title is like the news headline for your work. It should immediately answer questions like who, what, when, why and where. 

If you want to sell a photo of a lion, people typing in the word ‘lion’ into a search engine will receive millions of results. If you use the tag ‘photo of a lion eating its prey’ there will be fewer results. When tagging your photos, try to describe what you see as closely as possible. The less competitive the key phrases you use, the more likely your photos are to come up in the search results. When your photos are higher up in the search results you will receive more organic traffic to your photos and more opportunities to sell them. 

4. Try to find a niche that interests you

It helps you to sell your photos if you can find a niche that really interests you, such as food photography or fashion photography. You need to see what photographers are already creating in a specific niche. Are there any gaps that you could fill? Don’t just copy what you see but try to push the boundaries and create something new. For example, if you can find a new way to photograph birds, people may want to purchase your photos of birds rather than others.
