How to Make a Spring Lawn Care Schedule

Posted on by Jenni

Did you know that Americans spend over $50 billion a year on lawn care? That’s a lot of money!

But having a beautiful lawn doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, with a little bit of know-how and elbow grease, you can have a gorgeous lawn without breaking the bank.

One of the most important things you can do for your lawn is to establish a spring lawn care schedule. By following a few simple steps on a regular basis, you can keep your lawn healthy and looking its best all spring long.

Here’s a look at  lawn care steps you should be taking to care for your lawn this spring:

Prepare Your Lawn by Testing the Soil

Testing the soil will give you a better idea of what nutrients your lawn is lacking and how best to amend the soil. You can pick up a testing kit at your local garden center or hardware store.

Follow the instructions on the kit to collect a sample of your soil and then send it off to be analyzed. Once you receive the results, you can add any necessary amendments to the soil before you start planting grass seed or laying sod.

Clear Debris

After a long winter, your lawn may be covered in leaves, twigs, and other debris. Be sure to clear all of this away before you start working on your lawn care schedule. A good way to do this is with a leaf blower or rake.

If you have a lot of debris, you may want to consider hiring a professional lawn care company to come and take care of it for you.

Clearing away debris will help ensure that your lawn can breathe and that new grass seed has a chance to germinate and grow.

Aerate the Soil

Aerating the soil means making small holes in the soil so that air, water, and nutrients can reach the roots of your grass.

You can either aerate your lawn by hand or with a machine. If you have a large lawn, it may be worth it to invest in an aeration machine. For smaller lawns, a hand tool will do the trick.

Either way, be sure to aerate your lawn at least once a year to keep the soil healthy and encourage strong growth.

Fertilize the Lawn

Fertilizing your lawn will give it the nutrients it needs to grow strong and healthy.

There are many different types of fertilizer available, so be sure to choose one that is specifically designed for lawns. You should also follow the instructions on the package to ensure that you apply the fertilizer correctly.

Generally, you should fertilize your lawn twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. However, depending on your lawn’s needs, you may need to fertilize more or less often.

If you’re not sure how often to fertilize your lawn, you can consult with a professional like Holmesutah.com for the best lawn care.
